Leicestershire had to rely upon a fine half-century from Ben Cox to help ease themselves over the finishing line, in this opening match of the 2026 Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Having decided to bat, visitors Gloucestershire had amassed a rather modest first innings total of 235 - although they had been aided in even this by Leics' bowlers shipping 26 extras.  A tenth wicket stand of 43 by Daz Ahmed and Will Williams had also helped to top that target up towards respectability.

Leicestershire, in reply, initially began scoring at a fair old lick, but soon began losing wickets.  When Jonny Tattershall fell for 17 in the 23rd over, the Foxes found themselves on 100/4, and well shy of the required run rate for victory.

But in came Ruan de Swardt to steady the ship; and then Ben Cox to begin eating into the target with a series of boundaries.  

C0x was, rather selfishly I felt, caught on the boundary going for a six, when his side required just 7 runs from 22 balls.  Which left tail-enders Ajaz Patel and Mohammed Rizvi to negotiate a nervy conclusion to the business.

In the end, The Foxes won by 2 wickets, with 10 balls remaining.

The current Kibworth Cricket Club ground (still known as "New Ground") was opened in 2006, after the "old" ground, which the club had called home since 1883, was sold for housing development.

The New ground and the site of the Old ground are actually adjacent, as seen by the two Google Earth views below.

As seen from the 2025 aerial shot, there are two pitches at Kibworth.

Leicestershire have only been using Kibworth as an outground since 2023, with the only other currently-in-use one at Oakham School.

There have been (according to the occasionally accurate Wikipedia) thirteen other outgrounds in the past.  Which set me to thinking, a day spent driving around visiting each of these may be A Day Well Spent.
